The Canadian Museum of Civilization (CMC) is adding an important instalment of Black history to its permanent exhibitions by showcasing a one-room Prairie schoolhouse founded by former slaves and their descendants in Amber Valley, Alberta. Design includes the full scale re-creation of the original one room school house and an interpretive exhibition.

Canadian Museum of Civilization Permanent Exhibition, 2003 -
Final Design of Platform displays. The largest permanent exhibition on Canada's Aboriginal peoples, highlighting their cultural, historical and artistic achievements, both past and present. The history of Canada's First Peoples is revealed through personal testimony, works of art, legends, stories and over 1,500 artifacts in approximately 10,000 sq. ft.

First Peoples Hall, Zone 3, Survival and Cooperation in Ancient History
Canadian Museum of Civilization, Permanent Exhibition, 2003 -
An environmental display that reveals the hardships faced by aboriginal ancestors and their relationship to the land. Through the use of ever changing landscape projections on enormous scrims, reveals, sound scapes, backlit reader rails and a wonderful collection of artifacts illuminated by a custom designed fibre optic system, the exhibit is a theatrical display that presents content in a thoughtful and sophisticated manner. The visitor is left wanting to return since the display changes from one moment to the next.

Includes  approx. 500 ethnographic or archeological artifacts displayed in upright cabinets and several 'discovery drawers'. Explores the History of the Tsimshian People of the North West Coast.
